As it pertains to airport security, profiling has been shown to work in the smaller countries of Israel and the UK. Whether it would work in the largest air travel market in the world, I don't know. I believe that most people in this day and age understand what terror and terrorism are and I fail to see what defining them for the purpose of this post does other than try to minimize Gals overall point. She makes a valid point and I share her frustration. Certainly there are better ways to ensure our security than severe pat downs of young children or the elderly, come on really? As to the severity of the pat downs and the several stories of abuses making the rounds on the internet, I say that the TSA should send out all of their executives, have them go through security at a different airport than to which they are affiliated and see how security is handled. If they are doing a good job report it, emulate it, if they are doing a bad job fix it, fire them, train them, show them what needs to happen. And above all, show this to the American people so that we know that you are trying to keep us safe and at the same time are trying to constantly get better at what you do and how you do it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5201876257030138885.post-59304430716745447322010-11-22T06:19:59.756-08:002010-11-22T06:19:59.756-08:00how would looking at country of origin or countrie...how would looking at country of origin or countries visited not be profiling?! making a stereotype about somebody based on their nationality is still an -ism no matter which way you look at it.

and no, not all people who have done acts of terror in the united states have been of the Islam religion. You're just failing to see the rest of them.

Fema definition of terror: "Terrorism is the use of force or violence against persons or property in violation of the criminal laws of the United States for purposes of intimidation, coercion, or ransom."

So....the attempted bombing of Landstowne high school could be seen as an act of terror. He actually was facing those charges. I actually have met this kid before and I can tell you that he is not a Muslim and he was clearly trying to intimidate.

Heres another one by the department of defense in case you dont care for FEMA: "The calculated use of unlawful violence or threat of unlawful violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological."

So what about the Oklahoma City Bombing?

Those folks aren't Muslim....So while I do agree that to a certain extent that the body scanners are invasive and will be annoying, the only fair way to do it would be to scan everybody instead of profiling based on country of origin, religion, skin color, name, etc. Perhaps children could get the scan instead of a pat down, until they are 18. But, if one does not like the scans, then they can just choose not to fly like you have.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
