A Hollywood Election...

Lately, you may have seen the commercials starring several Hollywood actors encouraging you "not to vote". They are so convinced that the American people are so foolish that the mere appearance of some of our favorite Hollywood liberals using reverse psychology will make us rush to the polls, ostensibly to cast our vote for Barack Obama. Not that they say this in that commercial, but anyone who pays a scintilla of attention to the television will have seen most of these people sporting Obama shirts, signs or stumping for him. This commercial is frankly insulting to me since I don't need to have a mega-star tell me that my vote is "not important" while secretly trying to convince me that it is. And, to add insult to injury, the knowledge that this "Public Service Announcement" is really a veiled attempt at reminding the "sheeple" of America that Hollywood will be voting and that they will be voting for Obama. Of course, maybe this is a good thing. If Barack Obama is elected then the economy will be on the road to a fast recovery right? For example, since he has stated repeatedly that he will give a tax cut to anyone making less than $250,000 a year and will tax the hell out of those making more than that - to the tune of 50%, then our tax revenues should increase exponentially. I wonder if these Hollywood liberals who are so quick to remind us to vote have thought this thing through. Last time I checked, most of them make upwards of $1,000,000 per film (many of them making 5-10 times or more than that); at that tax rate, they would pay $500,000 to the federal government on each million that they earn. Take Julia Roberts, for example, she gets paid roughly $25 million per film. Is she really prepared to accept a paycheck of $12.5 million instead? I sure hope so because she was on TV last week wearing an Obama T-shirt and promoting "change". So, maybe it's not such a bad thing for the rich to pay half of their income in federal taxes when our economy is struggling so badly after all. At least they will still have their gigantic mansions to live in when the rest of America is out on the street because we lost our jobs when Obama taxed our employers to the nth degree. I HOPE they have saved for a rainy day, because without roofs over our heads or money in our pockets, we certainly won't be able to afford the $9.00 movie tickets to support them. If this is the politics of change and the future we can look forward to, I pray that American citizens wise up and choose their own President instead of listening to Hollywood. They make great films, but this is NOT a movie set - this is our country and the clock doesn't stop at 2400.

Mavericks 'R Us?

Well, now that the VP debate is over, all that's left to do is wait for the poll results. Many of the pundits are predicting that McCain's free falling numbers will stop and he will regain some ground as a result of Sarah Palin's performance. Of course, that is EXACTLY what I am hoping for. However, there are still 32 days left until election day and there is so much work to be done. Today, Governor Palin said that she would like to campaign across Michigan with Todd. I think that is an excellent idea. Hopefully, the McCain Palin campaign will decide to take the chance and let them give it a whirl. After all, Todd is a union man and Michigan is chock full of hunters and fishermen. If any Republican has a chance of turning that state red, it's Sarah Palin.

John McCain gets to face off with Barack "The Chosen One" Obama on Tuesday night again and he has his work cut out for him. He definitely needs to make it clear to the voters that a McCain White House would be very different from an Obama one and articulate the ways it would be. He must make the differentiation between growing government and its control over every aspect of your life, especially your wallet, and keeping the federal government at a minimal level. Since the Bailout Bill has now passed both Houses of Congress and we are going to be increasing our federal deficit by another $700 billion, McCain needs to appeal to the angry Americans, like me, that disagreed with the bailout even though we know there really was no other option. I did not want to see our economy collapse under the weight of failed mortgages and sub prime lending and I don't believe anyone else did either. That is why our leaders voted for the bill despite their misgivings. Of course, if the Democrats could just manage to write ONE bill that is not laden with pork projects, it will be a true "act of Congress", as they say. It is just a shame that McCain felt that he had no choice but to vote for the bill - I really wish he would have been in the position to take a stand on this one. Just an FYI - there was over $128 billion of pet projects in the Bailout Bill and by McCain voting for it he actually voted for more pork in one single bill than he has in his entire career in the United States Senate. Where was the Maverick today?

Palin Power

Tonight we saw why John McCain chose her. She is awesome! For those of us who didn't already realize that Sarah Palin is the perfect choice for McCain's Vice Presidential running mate, we found out tonight. I loved watching her debate Joe Biden. She showed such strength in her positions and determination to articulate her positions. I also think that Biden was somewhat unprepared for her spirited debate style. She reminded Americans that partisan politics need to come to an end if the needs of the people are to come first with the government. She also made it obvious that she is committed to working for the average, every day American - because she is one. How refreshing! When was the last time we had a person in the White House that was just your everyday "hockey Mom"? I can't remember. It has been THAT long ago. It sure would be a welcome change to have an outsider in Washington with our best interests at heart.

As I am sitting here typing this I am listening to the political pundits dissect the debate and discuss the performances tonight. Many of them agree that Sarah Palin was great, no matter their affiliation. However, there are a few of them that think that Biden won the debate. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but having participated in several debates, I believe that tonight is was all about Sarah Palin. What a grasp on the economy and the foreign relations issues of our day! Who knew that Alaska had any interest in Darfur? I don' think that Joe saw that one coming. Also, Palin said that Barack Obama has said that all we are doing in Afghanistan is "air raiding villages and killing women and children" and this has to stop. Did anyone else notice that Joe Biden did not even begin to respond to the accusation. Interesting? Perhaps, Joe Biden realized that it's hard to argue with the truth. Way to go Sarah!

So, the results are in... Palin Power all the way!!
